Scientist of Pakistani origin appointed to the Scottish Science Advisory Council

Professor Qammer Hussain Abbasi, a distinguished academic and scientific from Murrier and a graduate of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, was appointed member of the Scottish Science Advisory Council (SSAC) – the largest scientific advisory body in Scotland.

This advice provides independent advice and experts to Scottish ministers through the chief scientific advisor on scientific and technological issues. Abbasi is the very first Pakistani to receive this honor.

According to the SSAC official website, Abbasi is currently used by James Watt School of Engineering from the University of Glasgow, as an applied electromagnetic and detection teacher. It also acts as a co -director of the Center for Doctoral Training in Diversity, research focused and the director of communication detection and the imagery center.

With a research portfolio exceeding 13 million sterling books and more than 500 publications evaluated by peers in the best international journals – including the prestigious family of nature – Abbasi is also the editor of 14 scientific books.

His large-scale work extends to fields such as inter-aged detection and communication, 6G and 5G technologies, Terahertz electronics, wireless and nano-scale communications, sensors, radio frequency for health care and even cerebral-machine interfaces.

He has received multiple distinctions, including global approval from the talents of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Prize for Educational Excellence and Sensor 2021 Young Scientist Award. His multidisciplinary approach continues to fill the worlds of electronics, IT and biomedical engineering.

In particular, Abbasi was also appointed adviser to the British Department for Sciences, Innovation and Technology in November 2024, where it contributes to political recommendations linked to converging technologies such as semiconductors, quantum IT, AI and future telecommunications.

Adding to his list of historical achievements, he was recently elected as a member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (the National Academy of Scotland) – the same prestigious institution which once included lighting like James Clerk Maxwell and James Watt. He is the youngest Pakistanis to have received this honor.
