Sean “Diddy” request to delay his trial was refused by the Court in a new blow to the rapper in disgrace.
Friday, April 18, judge Arun Subramanian denied the request for Diddy’s lawyers that the trial was delayed by two months, according to US Weekly.
Consequently, the trial will begin on its scheduled date on May 5, which coincides with the Met Gala. The selection of the jury will take place that day, with opening declarations scheduled for Monday, May 12.
The music magnate fell from grace when he was arrested for federal accusations of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion and transport to engage in prostitution in September 2024.
The rapper denied all the accusations, and his lawyer Marc Agnifilo said he was “an imperfect” but “not a criminal”.
“Please reserve your judgment until you have all the facts,” said Agnifilo. “These are the acts of an innocent man without anything to hide, and he can’t wait to release his name in court.”
Since his arrest, many new civil proceedings have been brought against Diddy, which alleges sexual violence.
This decision comes after Diddy’s lawyers have filed a request by demanding that the trial be delayed by two months so that the rapper can obtain a “time necessary to prepare his defense” after the filing of a third revised indictment.
His legal team argued that there was a “significantly new conduct” alleged in the revised indictment and that the prosecutors still produced evidence in one of the charges.
“In these circumstances … We cannot, in good conscience, go to judgment on the scheduled date,” said the lawyers of Diddy. “This is a problem that the government has created, but it is opposed to our reasonable request.”
