Foundation Actor Jared Harris opened on the enormous but “satisfactory” decision that Hari Seldon takes in the second episode of season 3.
Addressing Techradar, Harris admitted that the crucial choice made by one of his characters Foundation Season 3 of episode 2, alias “ Shadows in the Math ”, had to happen so that Hari and Gaal could “pass” the dynamic teacher-student that defined them since the very first entry of the original Apple TV.
Complete spoilers immediately follow for the second chapter of this season. Return if you haven’t watched it yet.
“ Shadows in the Math ” sees Hari Renege on the plan of Gaal so that the couple enters and leaves Cryosleep for a few weeks each year to prepare the population of the second foundation based on Ignis for the arrival of the mule.
A few years after the start of this plan, the duo realizes that they lack time to provide the mentals – humans who have psychic and telepathic capacities – with the tools necessary to overcome Foundation The main villain of season 3. It is at this stage that Hari reveals that he will stop entering Cryosorme to accelerate the understanding of psychohistory by the mentals and ensure that they are ready for the upcoming battle.
However, despite the promise to continue to wake Gaal every year, Hari leaves it to Cryosleep for the next 146 years. When Gaal is finally awakened once again, 152 years have passed since Foundation Season 2 ended and, although the second foundation is much more prepared than it would have been to try to stop the mule, Hari is now a frail old man.
After a sincere meeting, Hari once again made a promise to Gaal: this time, he will always be there to see her the next day. However, later in the evening, he was welcomed by Kalle, alias the individual who previously resurrected Hari by mysterious means on a planet called Oona’s World in Foundation Season 2 Episode 3. Remember, in Foundation Season 1 Episode 2, Hari was murdered by his adopted son Raych, whom we learn from the great plan of Hari later in the second season of Apple TV +.
In short, Kalle told Hari that his race was led. A little reluctant to leave but also accepting his fate, Hari goes through a portal to the world of Oona with Kalle and is not revised.
Insnexation, of course, is that Hari has died for the second time. Harris’s time on one of Apple TV +’s best shows is not over, however – in fact, he also plays Doctor Seldon, a digital version of Hari’s consciousness that exists permanently in the safe.
Nevertheless, Harris explained why the “shadows in mathematics” were the right time for Hari to withdraw and lets Gaal take the reins, although he stopped saying if we saw Hari in future payments.
“There was no discussion [about Hari seemingly dying again]”Harris told me.” I felt like they [Foundation‘s writing team] I did not know what to do with the relationship of Hari and Gaal and that became a tired regurgitation of similar things of past seasons.
“Personally, I wanted to see this relationship move on,” continued Harris. “One of the changes to this episode was that he [Hari walking away] was a decision that he and Gaal made together, rather than the one he took in secret that would make her blind.
“As a consumer of this show, I also felt more satisfied than Gaal’s script was no longer defined by his relationship with my character. She fully lives her story – and that is her story because, from the start, she is the narrator of this program. So it is important that Hari passes from that, and Gaal discovers his own agency and is not retained by anyone.”

This does not mean that if it is the end of the line for Hari Seldon, Harris will not miss this version of the character.
“I found this version [Hari] Much more interesting to play because it is human, “added Harris.” The other [Doctor Seldon] It is this digitized consciousness that allows cheaters in the narration, because it knows everything, so it was not interesting to play.
“But, what is interesting in Doctor Seldon, and it is something that the writers adjusted after that I spoke to them during season two, is that Doctor Seldon discovers that his conscience was edited. It is a fairly important thing for him, because he always believed that he was writing his own story and knew everything, but he is in fact just a pawn in someone else’s game. explore.”
