The gang rape affair took another tour as the second suspect, identified as Laeeq, was killed on Friday during an alleged police meeting near Kot Nanak Village.
Meanwhile, two police officials were arrested for allegedly accepted a bridge pot to facilitate the previous release of Laeeq de la Garde.
Police sources said that the police officers of the Kassoki police station were routine’s patrol when their vehicle was under fire of three to four armed men near Kot Nanak.
Police turned fire to self-defense. During the exchange, an attacker was fatally killed – estimated by gunshots of his own accomplices, who managed to flee. The deceased was then identified as Laeeq, one of the suspects of the gang rape of a woman in front of her husband.
The Laeeq body was transferred to the district headquarters hospital for the autopsy, and the police registered a case against the unidentified attackers for having attacked the staff of the police. This development follows the death of another accused, Khawar, in a similar meeting one day earlier.
Despite these operations, two main suspects – Ikram Mangat and Chand Mangat – remain in freedom.
Legal inspector Muneeb Mangat, displayed at the District Police Office (DPO), and Kashif Warraich, in charge of the Hameed Pura police check, were accused of having accepted a 140,000 rupee-brothers in exchange for the facilitation of the escape of Laeeq of the legal guard.
