The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the opposition increased the bet, reaching a large understanding before the July 21 Senate elections to make the most of the political situation, sources announced on Thursday.

The two parties at a meeting late at night between Wednesday and Thursday decided to settle the case with a vote without opposition, the sources said.

According to sources, negotiations have led to a close agreement on a 6-5 formula, under which Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaf (PTI) would obtain six seats and the opposition five.

However, certain internal problems within the PTI and the provincial government are not resolved.

The chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur would have been responsible for persuading other PTI candidates to withdraw from the Senate race to finalize the arrangement.

The two parties want to avoid a disputed election, in the hope of minimizing political risks.

If no agreement is concluded and a vote, the result could be uncertain, which caused a strong push to ensure that all the candidates are elected without opposition, said sources.

The opposition has already agreed with a joint strategy and puts pressure on its candidates to be elected without opposition.

On the other hand, the PTI is assaulted with intestine struggles, with several leaders protest against their refusal of the ticket they deserved.

A final series of discussions between the two parties is expected today [Thursday]Where participants will be invited to sign the decisions made at the meeting of the day.

After the meeting, the leaders of the PTI in power and the opposition parties will hold a press conference.

Sources indicate that there are near the consensus on the holding of elections without opposition, with only a few details to finalize.

Taking the oath of the returned MPa must, says ECP

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Electoral Commission (ECP) earlier this week informed the governor and the chief minister of the province that the amp notified on the reserved seats cannot participate in the session of the Assembly or vote in the surveys of the Senate, unless they have administered the oath.

The secretary of the PCE, Omar Hamid Khan, called on the governor and CM to immediately convene an assembly session to take the oath of returned candidates to ensure the completion of the electoral college.

He said the electoral body was under the constitutional obligation to lead the elections to the Senate in KP, for which a date was set for July 21.

But he noted that the question of the oath administration to returned candidates was still pending and delayed.

Citing the verdict of the constitutional bench of SC, he declared that on July 2, 2025, a notification of candidates selected on seats reserved for women and non-Muslims was issued, but these members have not yet taken oath, they cannot therefore participate in the session of the Assembly or in the vote.

The secretary of the ECP stressed that before, the president of the KP assembly was requested on July 4 to administer the oath to elected members on reserved seats.

The speaker informed that the assembly session is not in progress; He cannot call a session.

The secretary of the ECP argued that, according to article 109 of the Constitution, the governor has the power to convene a session of the provincial assembly at his discretion.
