Karachi:
A murder affair was recorded at the Darakhshan police station for the targeted murder of the eminent lawyer Khawaja Shams-Il-Islam, who was shot down outside a mosque in the DHA.
The FIR, deposited by the victim’s brother, Khawaja Faiz-Ul-Islam, invokes sections linked to murder, terrorism, criminal plot and other serious offenses. According to police, seven men were appointed to the case, which stems from an armed attack in broad daylight.
The incident occurred on Friday when Khawaja Shams-Ul-Islam left the Mosque of the Quran Academy in phase 6 of the DHA, Khayaban-E-Rahat, after having offered Friday prayers and attended funeral. He was accompanied by his sons-Khawaja Daniyal-Uul-Islam and Khawaja Hamza-Uul-Islam-as well as a private security guard and an escort of the police. While going down the mosque staircase, the main suspect, Imran Afridi, son of Nabi Gul Afridi, would have taken advantage of the crowd and opened fire. A bullet struck Khawaja Shams-Ul-Islam while another hit his son Daniyal-Uul-Islam.
Hamza-Uul-Islam immediately precipitated his injured father at South City hospital. Despite medical treatments, Khawaja Shams-Ul-Islam died of his injuries. Meanwhile, Daniyal-Uul-Islam was transferred to Akuh.
The FIR also refers to a previous attack on November 14, 2024, during which Imran Afridi and 15 to 20 armed accomplices would have attacked Shams-UL-Islam. This incident involved shots and physical violence, and was reported to the Clifton police station.
The Sindh Bar Council condemned the murder of the Supreme Court Supreme Court Khawaja Shams-Ul-Islam and announced a boycott of procedure on the province’s scale on August 4.
The Vice-President of the Sindh Bar Council, Shafqat Rahim, and the president of the Executive Committee Muhammad Saeed expressed their indignation in the face of the failure of the law enforcement organizations. They said it was deeply regrettable that the suspect named was not arrested despite having confessed to the murder.
Khawaja Shams-Ul-Islam’s family also receives serious threats, which highlights the apathy of law enforcement authorities.
