- IHEART confirms that “several” radio stations have been struck by a data violation
- Crooks has taken names of names, health and payment from a non -disclosed number of people
- The company informed the government and the police
Several IHEARTMEDIA radio stations have undergone a cyber attack in which Crooks stole sensitive customer data, confirmed the company in a letter of notification of data violation sent to the persons concerned, as well as documents with several American state prosecutors.
The record Spotted Iheartmedia reporting the violation of Maine, Massachusetts and California, but noted that the company had left aside the land on the total number of people affected, so he does not know how many people had their stolen data.
In the notification letter it was sent, the company said that between December 24 and December 27, 2024, an unauthorized player “displayed and obtained” stored on systems “to a small number of our local stations”.
Millions of messages
Thus, several radio stations seem to have been affected, but society has not said how much.
IHEART is the largest media company focused on audio in the United States, with 870 radio stations and a quarter of billions of listeners each month.
No threat actor has yet assumed the responsibility of the attack, however, Iheart said that who was, they managed to steal the full names of people, passport numbers and other government identification numbers, birth dates, information on financial accounts, information on payment card, health information and health insurance information.
The threat actors struck gold with this database. With names, birth dates and health and insurance information, they may target people with tailor -made phishing attacks, and with passport numbers, they can get involved in an identity theft.
Information on the financial account – in particular information on the payment card – can be used in wire fraud. The data have not yet emerged for selling on the Dark Web Web.
To combat the threat, Iheart gives a year of identity theft protection services to affected people. He also set up a telephone number dedicated to people with requests for information.
