Liverpool: Several people were injured when a car crashed into fans during a Liverpool FC victory parade and the police arrested a 53 -year -old British man shortly after.
The crowd had gathered in the city center to celebrate the victory of the team’s Premier League when the incident occurred on Monday.
Merseyside police said that a “number of pedestrians” had been affected after the team’s open roof coach transported players and staff coaches through the city center for a victory show.
An unaccompanied video on social networks has shown that people lying on the road. A Reuters photographer has seen emergency services transporting victims on civilians with ambulances and debris dispersed on the road. A tent has been installed.
“We ask people not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding the incident tonight,” the police said. “In -depth investigations are underway to establish the circumstances leading to the collision.”
An unaccompanied video on social networks showed a car leading to high speed in fans that lined the street, at some point, seeming to move away from the most densely congested area.
The police surrounded the vehicle shortly after, and other videos showed angry fans trying to reach the driver.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on X that the scenes were “appalling” and that he was updated on the events.
“My thoughts go to all the injured or affected. I would like to thank the police and the emergency services for their quick and continuous response to this shocking incident,” said Starmer.
The team said that on X was in direct contact with the police about the event. “Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident,” said Liverpool FC.
