The National Conference of the Grand Alliance of the Opposition faced an obstacle while Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, the candidate of the opposition liaison committee and former Prime Minister, was forbidden to enter a private hotel in Islamabad, where the conference was supposed to take place.
The great alliance accused the authorities of having tried to stop the conference and promised to hold the event at all costs. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has reached the place, only to find a strong presence of FC (Frontier Constabulary) and police forces parked outside the hotel.
Upon arrival, Abbasi was denied entry.
Addressing the situation, the head of the opposition to the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, said that those who advised Mohin Naqvi and Shehbaz Sharif to prevent the conference from performing should receive the “Duffer Award” on March 23.
He also expressed his dissatisfaction with the current state of the country, declaring: “The country does not progress”.
Omar Ayub has also criticized the government, describing it as a government “Payment 47”, without mandate of the people. He also criticized the government’s attempts to advertise the newspapers, declaring that such actions would not lead to progress.
Omar Ayub, in his speech, called for a public rally in Balutchistan, despite the opposition of the provincial government. He also mentioned that the question of the missing people was the one they had raised before the chief judge of Pakistan. In addition, he demanded that the federal government will fulfill its obligations to the people of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
He concluded by stressing the importance of maintaining the Constitution and the rule of law, declaring: “We are here to strengthen the State and defend the Constitution, in particular article 7, which clearly defines the State.”
Earlier yesterday, the great opposition alliance accused the government of having tried to block its planned conference, insisting that the event will take place as planned tomorrow, despite the obstacles.
The leaders of the Alliance, including Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Omar Ayub and others, held a press conference after a crucial meeting to discuss the situation.
Abbasi revealed that the Alliance was trying to secure a place for last week’s conference. He said that at the start, the first place was canceled, followed by a second, with the explanation that the national cricket team had to pass.
