The Shalimar Express, traveling from Lahore to Karachi, derailed near the Shahdara region of the Punjab Lahore district on Thursday, which brought three of its coaches out.
The derailment, which took place near Barkat Town, narrowly avoided a major disaster, a local news channel reported.
The train, instead of overthrowing a populated area, stuck in the middle of a bridge, preventing other damage.
Following the incident, train operations between Lahore and Faisalabad were suspended, causing disruption of passengers and freight movements.
The rescue teams were immediately sent to the site to help with recovery efforts. The railway staff and the police arrived to assess the damage and manage the situation.
The CEO of railways, Ameer Ali Baloch, ordered an investigation into derailment.
According to managers of the railways, the accident was launched by the rupture of an old wooden track, which had been used for almost 200 years. Fortunately, no victim or injury has been reported so far.
The rail authorities were criticized for their negligence in maintaining the aging track infrastructure, which played a crucial role in the accident.
Efforts are underway to restore train services as soon as possible.
