KARACHI:

The Sindh Constitutional High Court on Tuesday ruled on a petition filed by former K-Electric CEO Monis Alvi against a decision of the provincial ombudsman on workplace harassment, after the petitioner withdrew his plea.

The court also approved his request for restitution of Rs 2.5 million deposited as fine. The court was hearing a petition challenging the ombudsman’s order, which had found Alvi guilty of workplace harassment and ordered his removal from the post of CEO and imposition of a fine of Rs 2.5 million.

Barrister Abid Zuberi and Barrister Ayan Memon appeared in court on behalf of the petitioner. They informed the bench that the Sindh governor had accepted an appeal against the ombudsman’s decision and set aside the impugned order. Copies of the Governor’s decision have been placed on file.

After perusal of the documents, the court ordered that the amount deposited pursuant to the earlier order be returned to the petitioner. The court later ruled the motion withdrawn.

The Provincial Ombudsman had issued the order following a complaint filed by Mehrean, finding Alvi guilty of workplace harassment and imposing the punishment and dismissal on him.
