The new secretary general of the Commonwealth expressed his real feelings after the first public with King Charles, who is the chief of the Commonwealth.
The palace shared a photo of King Charles with Shirley Botchwey after the public with the monarch on X, formerly Twitter and said: “The king, as chief of the Commonwealth, received the Hon. Shirley Botchwey during his appointment as a new secretary general of the Commonwealth in Windsor Castle this morning. ”
By commenting, Shirley Botchwey said: “Today, I had the honor of my first audience with His Majesty King Charles III, chief of the Commonwealth.
“We have shared our vision and our aspirations for the continuous success of the Commonwealth.”
She added: “I can’t wait to work with His Majesty to strengthen ties within our Nations family.”
Shirley Botchwey was appointed by the Commonwealth government leaders at their APIA biennial meeting, Samoa in 2024.
She took office on April 1, 2025 and is committed to advancing the values of the Commonwealth Charter at a time of global growth and changing alliances.
