- Windows 11 has a new pop-up in tests, but it could actually be useful
- This reminds those who have a Microsoft account which has not set up their access to the recovery they need, to help defend themselves against pirates
- In addition, if you do not have the sorted recovery process, you may encounter thorny problems if you forget your password
Microsoft has another new launch in Windows 11 tests, although this particular recall is useful (as opposed to advertisements that many of its “recommendations” are really).
This is a change to push people to ensure that the recovery mechanism of their Microsoft account is in place, and it appears in a new preview of Windows 11 for the Dev and Beta channels (Build 26120.3380 from 24h2).
Pop-up or toast notification, as it is officially known, reminds the Windows 11 user to add a secondary email or a phone number to their account for recovery purposes.
This will only be presented to people who are connected to their Microsoft account on the PC, and do not have this activated recovery function (as you could guess).
Analysis: a step to defend your account against being hack
Why is it a good type of boost, as opposed to the most boring efforts (which are facing advertisements, or are in fact advertisements, like that of the PC Game Pass)? Mainly because it is really important that you make the recovery configuration for your Microsoft account.
For the uninitiated, the recovery procedure comes into play when you have forgotten your password and therefore you cannot enter your account, to allow you to recover access. Of course, Microsoft must be sure that it is you – and not a harmful pirate – trying to access the account, and therefore needs a method to check what a hacker could not take advantage of. Namely this secondary email address, or better yet, your smartphone, which can provide a verification factor, then allow you to reset the forgotten password for something else.
So I would say that Microsoft is not out of line to encourage the user to sort, because it is important to do it (you could say the same thing on the recent prod to save your PC, although it is a little different in my book).
In any case, in this case, the NAG of Microsoft obtains a pass of me, but apparently, it is always possible to turn it off if you wish. As the latest windows observe (without confirming that this is the case), the contextual window must be deactivated by deactivating all the “additional parameters” sliders under System> Notifications In the parameter application.
In any case, it should be remembered that this only takes place in the first stages of tests at the moment, and it may not reach the version of Windows 11. I imagine that this is likely to cut and come to all Windows 11 users, however.
