Shonda Rhimes hinted that another The Bridgerton Chronicles A spin-off could be in the works, and she already has a leading lady in mind: Violet Bridgerton.
Speaking on a recent episode of Craig Melvin Glass half full podcast, executive producer was candid about the possibility following the success of 2023 Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
“I think it’s safe,” she said. “This is an area that we are passionate about and we know that it could be very rich and very well exploited.”
And when it came to who could anchor this story, Rhimes didn’t need long to answer.
“I’ve always said I thought if we were to do something like this, Violet would be a great person to tell the story to, Bridgerton’s mother,” she said. “Yeah, that’s a possibility.”
It’s a direction that seems timely.
The fourth season of the Netflix series gave viewers more of Violet Bridgerton, played by Ruth Gemmell, as she began to develop feelings for Lord Marcus Anderson, played by Daniel Francis, the brother of her close friend Lady Danbury.
But the romance hit a wall when Violet decided she wasn’t ready to take the next step.
Whether Violet’s story could support her own series is a question even The Bridgerton Chronicles author Julia Quinn struggled.
Quinn published the news Violet in bloomwhich follows Violet’s life from childhood to her marriage to Edmund and death, but failed to write a story that took her beyond that point.
On her website, she explained that she simply couldn’t imagine anyone good enough for Violet. “I love it,” she wrote plainly.
Whether the series will go where the books didn’t go remains to be seen, but with Rhimes openly excited about the prospect, Violet Bridgerton’s story may not be over yet.
