Pakistan began the progressive blocking of more than 4.9 million mobile SIM cards recorded under the identity cards of expired citizens, canceled or deceased, confirmed the basis of the national data and recording (NADRA) on Tuesday.
The Ministry of the Interior asked Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to act on Nadra’s recommendations in a decision to limit the abusive use of mobile networks through false or inactive identities.

“A total of 4,906,611 Sims will be blocked in phases,” said a spokesperson for the Nadra, adding that the process targets IDs who have not been renewed or belong to deceased people.
Sims registered in the identity cards that expired in 2017 will be blocked on June 30. The cutting dates for the following years are as follows:

July 31 for expirations

August 31 for 2019

September 30 for 2020

October 31 for 2021

November 30 for 2022

December 31 for 2023, 2024 and 2025
The spokesman said that this action aims to “strengthen national security and strengthen the digital ecosystem by making it more secure and reliable”.
Citizens are invited to quickly renew their computerized national identity cards (CNIC) to avoid any service disturbance.
