KARACHI:
The Sindh PPP government has requested the federal government to transfer the armored vehicles rejected by the KP provincial administration.
The Sindh Home Department on Thursday requested the Ministry of Interior to allot the vehicles rejected by the KP.
“Given the critical security environment in Sindh, particularly with regard to the protection of Chinese nationals as well as the security of foreigners, VVIPs and dignitaries visiting the province, there is an urgent need for bulletproof vehicles.
“It is therefore requested that these bulletproof vehicles be kindly allocated to the Sindh government for deployment under the aegis of the Ministry of Interior.
“The vehicles will be used exclusively for the above-mentioned official security duties and will be maintained and operated under strict departmental control,” the letter from Sindh Additional Chief Secretary Muhammad Iqbal Memon said.
KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Monday blamed the federal government’s “flawed policy” for the resurgence of terrorism witnessed in the province.
He had claimed that the federal government was neither granting KP funds allocated under the ongoing war against terrorism nor “other constitutional rights”.
He had also claimed that the bulletproof cars provided by Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi were “defective and old”, asking the Center to recall them.
Balochistan CM Sarfraz Bugti then intervened, saying that like KP, his province was also affected by terrorism.
“This is an appeal to the Home Minister that if the KP government refuses to take the bulletproof vehicles, they should be transferred to the Balochistan government so that terrorism can be fought effectively,” he said in a post on X.
In a unique turn of events, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi allocated the bulletproof vehicles meant for KP to Balochistan.
