KARACHI:
The Sindh Bar Council has demanded the immediate dismissal of Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori by President Asif Ali Zardari, saying political activities at the Governor’s House violated the Constitution.
A resolution against the governor was approved at the 109th meeting of the Sindh Bar Council, held on February 21, which decided that “the involvement of the Governor of Sindh in political activities and use of the Governor’s House for political purposes constitutes a violation of the Constitution.”
The council demanded that the President immediately remove Tessori from his post, with the resolution stating: “The House demands the immediate removal of the Governor of Sindh as he has proven himself unfit to represent the federation.

Furthermore, he stressed that constitutional positions must remain above politics and the governor must remain impartial as a representative of the federation.
The statement added that no compromise will be accepted on the unity and integrity of Sindh, and said: “We also call on the PPPP to clearly express its party’s position regarding power-sharing arrangements in the federal government with political parties that have been pushing narratives relating to the division of Sindh.

While demanding assurance of constitutional protection for the people of the province, the council said, “The people of Sindh deserve clarity and assurance that the unity and constitutional status of the province will not be compromised by any political arrangement.
The Sindh Bar Council also noted that even the absent members of the council had approved the resolution.
On February 20, Sindhi nationalist leaders accused Tessori of turning Governor’s House into a platform for what they described as ethnic politics, following a recent event attended by leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P).
Ayaz Latif Palijo, leader of the Qaumi Awami Tehreek, claimed that the Governor’s House had been reduced to a “centre of conspiracies against Sindh and Pakistan”. He said any attempt to undermine Sindh amounted to a threat to the integrity of Pakistan.
A day later, Chief Minister and Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon condemned what he called hateful and linguistically biased speeches made at a recent function at the Governor’s House, calling the choice of words and ideas deeply regrettable.

Sharjeel also criticized inappropriate references to state institutions at the event, saying such discussions do not suit a constitutional agenda and undermine civic harmony.
He expressed concern that elected officials are using such platforms to convey biased messages, noting that the incident, including MQM members addressing each other, threatens Karachi’s culture of peace and brotherhood.
