Sindh extends ban on public gatherings and gatherings for another month

The order said the move is aimed at maintaining law and order and stopping gatherings that could threaten security across Sindh

The Sindh government has extended Section 144 for another month across the province, maintaining the ban on public gatherings, rallies, processions and demonstrations.

According to a notification issued by the Interior Ministry, the ban, initially imposed on October 12, prohibits all forms of demonstrations and gatherings of more than five people under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

The order said the measure was taken to maintain public order and prevent groups from gathering in a manner deemed detrimental to public safety in Sindh.

The notification was distributed to all commissioners, DIGs, SSPs, deputy commissioners and director general of Sindh Rangers, along with the chief secretary and principal secretaries to the chief minister and governor, asking them to ensure strict implementation.

The Interior Ministry warned that violators would face legal action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Law enforcement has been tasked with taking action against any individual or group attempting to organize protests in violation of the order.

Officials said the extension was deemed necessary due to increased political activities and calls for protests across the province, adding that the measure was aimed at preventing any deterioration in the law and order situation. The ban will remain in effect for one month.
