Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori urged the Sindh -Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, establishing a high -level commission to investigate the growing number of traffic accidents and deaths in Karachi.

In a letter to the chief minister, Tessori highlighted the concerns about reckless driving, in particular by heavy vehicle operators such as waste mill, trailers and oil tankers.

He has noted a sharp increase in traffic violations and traffic accidents in recent months, which has caused significant public anxiety.

The proposed commission, led by the chief secretary, would examine the profound causes of these incidents and would hold responsible officials, said Tessori.

He underlined the need for a complete strategy to prevent new tragedies and ensure public security.

According to the Chhipa Welfare Association, Karachi recorded 107 deaths related to traffic in the first 45 days of 2025, including 78 men, 14 women, 11 children and 4 girls.

In addition, 1,493 people were injured, including 1,290 men, 193 women, 42 children and 18 girls.

Previously, the governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, wrote a second letter to the chief judge of the High Court of Sindh (SHC), urging immediate measures on the growing number of traffic deaths in Karachi.

In his letter, Tessori underlined administrative negligence and legal violations as the main causes of fatal accidents in the city.

The governor expressed his concern in the face of a recent incident where four citizens lost their lives in one day.

He stressed that, despite an order from the court restricting intense traffic in the city between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., complaints of non-compliance continue to increase.

Governor Tessori asked the High Court to guarantee strict implementation of his prescriptions to prevent new tragedies.

Previously, the Karachi division commissioner, Syed Hassan Naqvi, announced on Friday a complete ban on intense traffic in the city during the day for the next two months.

The prohibition, in force from February 14 to April 13, 2025, restricts the movement of waste transporting building materials, mixing machines and other intensive traffic within the city limits from 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
