Sindh reports two new cases of polio, the national counts climb to 29

The National Health Institute has confirmed two new cases of Sindh poliovirus, increasing the total number of Pakistan polio in 2025 up to 29, reported the Associated Press of Pakistan. According to the NIH, the new cases were detected in the districts of Badin and Thista, the two patients being young girls.

With this confirmation, the Sindh count for the year has reached nine cases, while the country’s breakdown shows 18 cases in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, nine in Sindh, and each in Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Polio is a very infectious and incurable disease that can cause disability for life. Health experts emphasize that only effective protection is repeated doses of the oral polio vaccine for each child under the age of five, as well as timely completion of routine vaccinations.

In September, the National Emergency Operations Center for Polio Eradication led a vaccination campaign in 88 districts, including Badin and Thitta, reaching and inoculating nearly 21 million children.

Drive of polio vaccination throughout 13 to 19 October

The next national polio vaccination campaign will take place from October 13 to 19, targeting 45.4 million children until the age of five.

In addition to the OPV, vitamin A supplements will also be administered to strengthen the immunity of children.
More than 400,000 leading and dedicated primary workers will do door door to ensure that each eligible child receives protection.

Officials have stressed that the eradication of polio requires collective responsibility. While front-line workers play an essential role in the delivery of vaccines, parents and caregivers must ensure that their children receive polio falls whenever the campaign is launched, they said.

They urged communities, teachers, religious leaders and the media to support vaccination efforts, dissipate disinformation and encourage families to have their children vaccinated.

The health authorities have reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to eradicate polio, stressing that united efforts are essential to obtain a future without polio for each child in the country.
