Karachi: Several Sindh districts are in shock under an intense heat wave, with temperatures that should climb from 5 to 7 degrees Celsius above normal today, the meteorological department of Pakistan (PMD) said on Monday.
According to the Met Office, Larkana, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Kashmore, the Qambar Shahdadkot district, the Ghotki district, the Sukkur district and other regions are likely to see unusually high temperatures while the heat wave intensifies through the province.
In Karachi, Thitta, Sujawal, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot and Tharparkar, intermittent strong winds should continue today, aggravating the hot and dry conditions that have seized the region in recent days.
The PMD said Karachi is expected to have a warm and humid time on Tuesday and Wednesday, with maximum temperatures likely to vary between 36 ° C and 38 ° C. However, sea breeze should resume, offering a certain relief to residents.
The weather alert follows a week of regular increase in the port city. Mercury peaks at almost 40 ° C on Sunday, and similar conditions should persist in the coming days.
The chief meteorologist Muhammad Afzal previously warned against a national increase in temperatures due to climate change and the effect of the island of urban heat, especially in cities densely populated like Karachi.
He warned that temperatures could remain from 2 ° C to 3 ° C above normal in a large part of the country and up to 4 ° C higher in Karachi.
With the heat posing growing challenges, the PMD urged citizens to take precautionary measures. These include staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activities during peak hours of the sun and keeping water to facilitate the burden of public infrastructure.
