The Sindh government is set to launch a crackdown on fanciful number plates from April 1 as the traffic police will take action against counterfeit, fanciful and unregistered vehicles.

According to the norms set by the Sindh government, luxury, counterfeit and unregistered vehicles would face prosecution, with traffic police targeting vehicles without registration plates.

Strict measures have been taken against those who drive cars or motorcycles without license plates. Traffic police have asked motorcyclists to install front and rear number plates.

Citizens who have not yet received an official number plate from the Excise Department are advised to use number plates bearing the official government design.

The crackdown would involve personnel from the district police, traffic police, Citizen Police Liaison Committee, Excise Department and Driving License Directorate.

It was also decided that drivers without a license would be issued with a learner’s permit on the spot.

Owners of vehicles and motorcycles without registration plates would be given 24 hours to obtain new registration plates, after which the confiscated vehicles and motorcycles would be released without any fine.
