Six dead, 38 injured while the bus plunges into the ravine near Chakri Interchange

At least six people, including women and children, were killed and 38 others injured after a passenger bus fell into a ravine near the Chakri interchange on the M-2 motorway on Sunday, which would have accelerated on a slippery road and soaked in rain.

According to the officials, the unfortunate bus – operated by a private transport company – was on the road from Rawalpindi to Multan and transported 43 passengers at the time of the accident. The vehicle skidded the road near Chakri and plunged into a deep throat.

Highway police, 1122 rescue and other emergency services responded quickly to the scene. The injured received first aid on site before being moved to various hospitals. Seven of the wounded are in critical condition.

The first accounts suggest that the driver accelerated despite poor visibility and slippery conditions. A survivor, in a recorded video while speaking to a rescue officer 1122, said that the vehicle was fully excited and that the driver ignored the warnings of passengers to slow down, leading to the fatal accident.

Among the deceased, Saima Subhan, 50, from Karachi, Samina Nasir, 50, 50, from Mian Channu, and Faheem, an 18 -year -old from Wah Cantt. Naveeda Naheed, Naveeda Naheed, from Pir Mahal, Muhammad Ashraf, 35, and Iram Batool, died of his injuries later in the hospital.

Among the injured are 11 children aged one and 17. Of the 38 injured, 23 were taken to the Hospital of the Chakwal district headquarters, eight at the Pakistan Medical Sciences Institute (PIMS) in Islamabad, and seven at DHQ Rawalpindi hospital. The bodies of the deceased were transported in the district hospitals of Chakwal and Rawalpindi.

Chakri police, led by Shoe Masood inspector, initiated an official investigation into the incident. The authorities have not yet confirmed whether the driver and his assistant are among the injured or the dead because they could not be located on the scene.

The police and district police officers said that investigations were continuing to determine the exact cause of the accident and check the responsibility.
