Islamabad:
The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) published on Saturday 19 complaints filed against various judges of the high courts and APEX under article 209. It also decided to postpone procedures on five other complaints filed by different persons.
The SJC – The Constitutional Forum which can hold the judges of the Superior Court responsible – put to the Supreme Court of Islamabad under the presidency of the chief judge of Pakistan (CJP), Yahya Afridi.
Judge Munib Akhtar de Sc, the chief judge of the High Court of Lahore (LHC), Aalia Neelum and the chief judge of the High Court of Sindh (SHC), Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar, attended the meeting. SC’s judge since SC, Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, also participated in the meeting via the video link.
According to sources, the Council deliberated on the suggestion of CJP Afridi to announce the names of the judges against which the complaints were eliminated. The SJC then decided to keep these names confidential.
The press release from the Supreme Court also did not specify the judges that the five deferred complaints are against the nature of the 19 resolved complaints.
The Council also approved the proposed project of the Secretariat of the Supreme Council Judicial Council 2025. However, it decided that the modifications proposed to the investigation procedures and the code of conduct required more legal and drafting prospects.
Article 209 of the Constitution deals with the composition and functions of the SJC.
