Lahore:

The Pakistani peoples’ party (PPP) is not convinced that his meeting with the Pakistani-Nawaz Muslim League (PML-N) at Governor House on Saturday (today) will give any significant result, revealed a senior party official.

Reunion, which is held to respond to PPP’s concerns concerning the refusal of political space in Punjab, gives no significant result, said the party initiate.

“It is in the genes of PML-N to treat its benefactors with the greatest contempt,” he deplored, expressing skepticism rooted deeply in the PPP ranks concerning any tangible progress.

He added that the real battlefield for PPP at this stage is not Punjab, but the problem of the controversial channel, whose Asif president Ali Zardari has already raised serious concerns during a joint parliamentary session.

He said that the PPP was well aware that he was against powerful forces, but added that the party considered it a battle for its political survival and was ready to go to the end.

The PPP delegation for the meeting will be led by the former Prime Minister and Central President of Punjab, Raja Pervez Ashraf, and should include Ali Haider Gillani, Nadeem Afzal Chan and the governor of Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider, the chief.

Before the meeting, PPP will hold an internal discussion at 1:30 p.m., followed by an informal group to finalize its discussion points before engaging with PML-N at 4:00 p.m.

According to the PPP Insider, the party will present its clear request in the hope of obtaining a form of concession to use as a facial economy measure.

“Even if PML-N is ultimately rendering on its commitments in Punjab, it will not cost anything from the PPP. In fact, this will only strengthen our argument that we acted with altruistic intentions,” he said.

A PPP spokesperson confirmed the meeting, but said that the party had not been informed of the composition of the PML-N delegation. Meanwhile, PML-N could not be joined to comment.

It is relevant to note that the next meeting follows an earlier attempt to relaunch the concerns of the PPP, which began with a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in Islamabad.
