Social media should not be used to spread negativity: SHC CJ

Karachi:

The chief judge of the High Court of Sindh (SHC), judge Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar, said that a plan aimed at putting in place more courts and increasing the number of civil judges had been finalized. He also urged that social media is used positively and not to spread negativity in society.

He was expressed during the inauguration of the free legal research service organized by DG lawyers. Judge Ghaffar said that, thanks to recent changes, civil affairs had been transferred from SHC to district courts to minimize the disadvantages of litigants and simplify the transfer process. The problems relating to the competence in civil matters have also been resolved, he added.

The chief judge said that the plan of more courts had been discussed with the chief judge of Pakistan as well as the construction of a legal complex. He said that during a recent Supreme Court meeting, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) was also discussed and it was decided to frame a policy for this. He said that judgments could not be produced with one click and could not be prepared by pressing a single button, although its support was fully used.

He said the SHC had improved his equipment, set up a research unit with civilian judges and improved his official website to include detailed judgments and information on cases. Orders downloaded from the site could now be checked via a follow -up system, and the certified copy system was computerized.

Judge Ghaffar said that in Karachi, affidavits in the affairs of the high court could now be attested with any circuit bench and that work was underway to make the same installation available for the affidavits of the district court. Judgments, as well as case newspapers, would also be downloaded from the website.

Advising the public, he said: “People should not distribute harmful content on social networks, but share positive things.”

Speaking during the event, the president of the association of the bar of the High Court of the Sindh (SHCBA), the lawyer Sarfaraz Metlo, said that the bar worked for the well-being of the lawyers and the supremacy of law and the constitution, but that his projects were not published.

He said that after moving civil courts, the infrastructure of the existing district court had become insufficient and the number of civil judges should be increased. A free shuttle service was managed between the SHC, the city court and the Malir court for the convenience of lawyers, he added.

The ceremony brought together judge Agha Faisal, managers of the bar and main lawyers. Under the free legal research service, lawyers will now have access to information on cases from 1947 to 2025.
