Pakistan security forces killed eight activists and injured four others in a shooting near the Pakistani-Afghanistan border, the media wing said on Sunday.
According to inter-service public relations (ISPR), the confrontation occurred on the night of April 5 to 6 when the movement of activists trying to infiltrate Pakistan was detected. The security forces responded quickly, leading to an intense fire fight which lasted several hours.
“The infiltrates were actually engaged, causing eight Khawarij eliminated and four critically injured,” said the ISPR declaration, adding that injured activists retired through the border in Afghanistan.
Pakistan has repeatedly called upon the interim Afghan government to strengthen border management and prevent its territory from being used as a basis for launching attacks against Pakistan.
“The acting Afghan government should fulfill its obligations and deny the use of its territory by activists,” said the press release.
Pakistan security forces remain determined to secure the country’s borders and eliminate the threat of terrorism, the ISPR concluded.
