Sony has announced The Playerbase, a new initiative offering dedicated PlayStation fans the opportunity to be digitized into a PlayStation Studios game.
The company shared the news in a new PlayStation Blog post, describing the initiative as “a unique opportunity for PlayStation’s biggest fans to enter some of the biggest gaming worlds by having their image scanned and appearing in a PlayStation game.”
“For over 30 years, we have continually sought ways to celebrate our gaming community, which plays a vital role in the history and future of PlayStation. Today, we are excited to offer the opportunity to bring some of our dedicated PlayStation fans even closer to the PlayStation experience,” said Isabelle Tomatis, Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment.

The player base will start with Gran Turismo 7but will eventually expand and include fans in additional PlayStation Studios titles “in the near future”, which could mean other games included in flagship franchises like God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Horizonand more.
The program will be available in the Americas, Europe, Asia, South Africa and Australia, and fans can visit The Playerbase’s official website starting today to get started.
Players will need to log in with a PlayStation account ID and answer a series of questions to continue their application.
“After reviewing the applications, we will select a limited number of finalists to participate in video interviews to learn more about them and their connection to PlayStation,” Tomatis explained. “From there, one PlayStation fan will be selected to appear in Gran Turismo 7 as part of The Playerbase, where they will have a special limited-time appearance in the form of an in-game character portrait, similar to how characters are featured throughout the game.”
The selected fan will also visit a visual arts studio in Los Angeles for a day of scanning and collaborate with a designer to create a custom Fantasy logo and unique vehicle livery, which will be permanently added to the Showcase menu.
“Over time, we look forward to expanding The Playerbase as more PlayStation studios participate, introducing fans in a way that fits the style and world of each game,” Tomatis said.
“Playerbase is our way of thanking the players who make PlayStation what it is today. We can’t wait to meet the fans who will enter the world of PlayStation in a whole new way.”
