In the future, PlayStation players could finally have a reason to go out, at least if this new Sony patent is something to pass.
As discovered by the Passionate Tech4gamers blog, a recently published patent from Sony breaks down what seems to be a DualSense wireless solar energy controller for PlayStation 5.
The patent, parts of which we have a translated machine, describes a controller which houses photovoltaic systems. According to the patent, these would be able to produce electricity without the need for any type of battery or external charger.
In theory, a constant flow of solar energy, stored in the controller battery, would help prevent the controller from running dry when you want to play. This could solve one of the biggest problems with the DualSense wireless controller, its dreadful battery life.
A new range of solar energy controllers would be welcome, although you should keep in mind that it is far from a concrete certainty at this stage. Large companies like Sony deposit all the time for new ideas and many do not end up being used in products.
