- Leaked PS5 symbols hint at Sony’s potential plans for a big PS5 to PC crossover
- ‘Cross-Buy’ suggests Sony could replicate Microsoft’s Xbox Play Anywhere strategy, between the PlayStation and PC ecosystem
- This would be a consumer-friendly move that Sony and Rockstar include GTA6 in Cross-Buy plans, if legitimate
Microsoft has made huge changes to the games console market, with its Xbox brand prioritizing the ability of gamers to play first-party games on a variety of platforms beyond its Xbox Series X|S consoles – and a new clue suggests Sony could follow suit.

The suggestion to play anywhere might sound familiar, and that’s because Microsoft had its The Xbox Play Anywhere feature has been implemented for almost a decade and has grown to work with new Xbox games like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Or Gears of War: Reloadedwhich allows PC and Xbox console owners to play purchased games (that are supported) between the two platforms.
It’s also worth noting that Sony previously enabled this cross-purchase term back in the days of PS Vita handhelds, allowing purchased PS3 games to be played on the device at no additional cost.
Microsoft and Sony have increased their efforts to bring exclusive games to platforms other than the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles, respectively. Microsoft recently started this trend with years of PC gaming, and now a growing library of games is heading to what many would consider its rival, the PlayStation ecosystem.
Although Sony hasn’t been reciprocal about bringing exclusive PlayStation games to Xbox consoles, it has made an increasing effort to bring these games to PC gamers, and there are now a large number of them available on Steam and the Epic Games Launcher. In this case, it might not be surprising to see an attempt to strengthen the PC crossover via this Cross-Buy method.
I didn’t think this and @Zuby_Tech’s post would go viral, so:- The screen is real (see video below)- The symbols are present on PS5 (not PS4)- The symbols are official Sony “fonts” (uf-code: EF5B to EF61) You can see them yourself by searching for my handle: yAmethxst pic.twitter.com/xz6e5u14v6November 4, 2025
Whether this indicates a PlayStation PC launcher and store is on the way is at the forefront of speculation and could be an attempt to compete with Valve’s Steam storefront. However, what is clear, despite online skepticism regarding the symbols and their legitimacy, is that it appears real, as Amethxst confirms in another tweet (available above).
If this is indeed what the name Cross-Buy implies, it will also spark reasonable speculation about Sony’s potential plans to bring its PlayStation exclusives to PC on day one, similar to the Xbox Game Pass titles launching simultaneously on PC and Xbox.
It will also be interesting to see if this will only affect first-party PlayStation games, because if this is legitimate and third-party games are also included, then there is one on everyone’s mind that would be the culmination of a major crossover between PS5 and PC.
Analysis: Sony and Rockstar Games have a perfect opportunity to capitalize on a GTA 6 PS5 and PC crossover
Now I know I’m not the only one who immediately thought of GTA6 when seeing this Cross-Buy symbol. While I’m fully aware that this would most likely only pertain to PlayStation games, especially since that’s how Xbox Play Anywhere works, Sony and Rockstar Games would be passing up a great opportunity to collaborate on a Cross-Buy edition of GTA6.
In theory, this would essentially allow PC gamers (who already own a PS5 console) to put down a deposit for the PC edition (with single-player and online cross-saves) which is most likely due to launch within a few years, and would further increase the incentive to purchase the highly anticipated title on PS5.
This is a much better proposition than a double dip, as it is consumer friendly, since some will be hesitant to repurchase the game later on PC, or may be hesitant to buy on console to begin with, for fear of missing out.
I have no doubt that this would probably mean cross-buying GTA6 The edition would come at an additional cost, but as a PS5 and PC owner, I would have no qualms about paying a little more than usual, knowing that I won’t have to worry about buying the game and starting all over again on PC when it launches.
Do I see this happening? Absolutely not, but it would be a great move on the part of Sony and Rockstar if it happened.
