- Microsoft Edge’s uninstall document promotes the browser on Google Chrome, without any actual withdrawal instruction
- It offers a control list on the benefits supposed on Google Chrome
- There is no official way of uninstalling Microsoft Edge, because the configuration panel allows only one “ repair ” only
It is not surprising that Microsoft has more attempts to distance PC users again from other browsers in favor of its own EDGE option – but its latest diagram could be a new low point.
As Windows pointed out, a new “uninstall document” was published by Microsoft, explaining supposedly how to remove Microsoft Edge from your PC, but surprisingly, this is not the case. Instead, he compared to Google Chrome with a control list (photo below) features which, according to him, are available on the edge but not chrome (which is not completely true) – it Mostly the opposite of what most people would expect a document on uninstalling an application to be made.
It is a pity that this occurs after the confidentiality updates well received by Microsoft for the Chrome Incognito mode, which is a huge positive for its users. However, he has now reached a bottom with this document “uninstall” that users will not like at all. Microsoft already grows EDGE aggressively via contextual windows and Windows 11 advertisements, which many users consider invasive and boring. Meanwhile, Chrome remains the most popular browser despite Microsoft’s boastfuls on EDGE’s high user numbers in 2024, so it is not surprising that many want to uninstall Edge.
This should not be a big surprise, because Microsoft has used many tactics to win users in their browser – but it seems particularly fallacious.
It reminds me of the cancellation pages of the members …
Try to get rid of something, but rather to be bombed with reasons for the reasons not Getting rid of this, you will be terribly familiar with many people who have tried to cancel a subscription. Try to cancel your PlayStation Plus subscription, for example, and Sony will try to try to stay with an offer on a 12 month premium subscription.
Amazon is also known for this – if you try to cancel Prime, you must click on several pages convincing you to stay – and it has been continued for this, mainly because its marketing tactics were considered deceptive and coercive by the FTC ( United States Federal Commercial Commission).
Thus, Microsoft is far from being the only company that tries to change the minds of its customers who wish to abandon a product. However, it is undeniable that this decision seems particularly strange – you expect a document which is supposed to give you instructions to uninstall a program to do exactly that, rather than the opposite by trying to be used. It also seems a bit cheeky using the word “uninstall” if there is literally no way to officially uninstall the edge.
Personally, I think that essentially forcing users to maintain a program installed on their PCs will rather push them to use it. To say one thing but to do another one could come back to bite Microsoft …
