South Korea prosecutors are looking for a sentence of ten years for the man who stabbed the CEO of Haru Invest

A South Korean man who attacked the CEO of the collapsed cryptography society, Haru Invest, is now facing a potential decade behind bars, according to local media.

The Seoul prosecutors asked for a 10-year prison sentence for someone that local media only identifying themselves by his surname Kang, a man in the fifties who stabbed Haru Invest CEO, Lee Hyung-Soo, during a hearing by the court last year.

Haru Invest took a break in withdrawals in 2023, citing the problems of partners, without giving a specific reason, before its managers were arrested in 2024 for allegedly stolen $ 828 million in customer funds.

Kang’s defense argued that he had no intention of killing, noting that he had not targeted a deadly area and acted in a moment of extreme emotional distress after losing 100 BTC (worth 8.3 million dollars) due to the collapse of Haru Invest.

His lawyers were pressure for a reduction in the accusation of aggravated assault rather than attempted murder, citing his serious financial and psychological sessions.

Before the hearing, local media said that Haru Invest Victim ‘Association had held a press conference demanding the release of Kang, arguing that fraud victims like him were unjustly treated while the leaders accused of hundreds of millions of dollars worked for free.

Kang must return to court on April 4 for conviction.
