- Spotify deploys new features for its podcast library, bringing you closer to the programs you love
- This includes a new flow following in the home page, which brings together all the podcasts you follow
- There is also a new function that helps you discover new shows, that Spotify has been criticized for missing in the past
Spotify has introduced a small suspension of new Podcast features, all designed to stimulate the presence of its library of audio and video podcasts at the same level as its musical catalog – the new most notable addition being a new following flow.
Yesterday, the platform announced the new functions in a blog post and although they are minor additions to the Spotify interface, they play their role to get closer to the podcasts you like while helping you discover your next favorite program. They also give creators a higher hand, with Spotify adding “it gives them new ways to reach even more audiences in the world”.
The new features are already starting to deploy to users and are widely available, except that which, according to Spotify, “will deploy in the world in the coming weeks”. So, if you are a fan of podcast, or if you try at least to be it, these are the three new tools to test.
1. New podcasts according to the flow
The main function of the three podcast is the next new flow, a dedicated space for the shows that you already follow. This places them all in one place on the Spotify home page, allowing you to stay above new episodes and versions of the creators that you listen to the most.
When you access the Spotify home page and use the podcasts filter at the top of the screen, it now displays an extended tab you can activate. From there, all the latest episodes of the podcast that you follow will appear. It is simple and easily accessible.
2. Podcast recommendations in your home flow
In addition to getting closer to your favorite creators, Spotify doubles its podcast discovery features. The second new feature is a function focused on the recommendations in your home page.
Just under your home page shortcuts, Spotify has started to display recommendations for new audio and video podcasts, ready to play or record. This new addition is designed to save you time when you scroll through the categories of Spotify podcasts looking for a new program, while joining its own ethics of optimization of exposure to creators.
3. New section “In this episode”
Spotify recently launched its “follow -up” functionality for audio books, and it does something similar with podcasts. In the coming weeks, Spotify will deploy a new section “ `in this episode ” for podcasts, which allows creators to link the content they mention in the episodes that are also available on Spotify.
For example, if a creator mentions an album, a song or a specific audio book in an episode of Podcast, the section “ `in this episode ” will show these titles and give you the possibility of exploring the referenced content.
In recent years, Spotify has paid a lot of attention to bringing new features allowing users to optimize the discovery of music, but he has received criticism so as not to apply the same thing to podcasts. But these features mark a step towards the new Spotify strategy for the discovery of Podcast.
The battle for the best Podcast platform continues, and Spotify fights to compete with Apple Music and YouTube, the latter is the current prevailing champion of podcast fans in the United States.
