- The new IOS of Spotify update allows it to announce other payment options
- The change comes in response to a new American decision of the App Store
- The application still does not offer the AirPlay 2 or Native Homepod integration
It was fast. One day after an American federal judge told Apple to loosen its grip on the App Store, Spotify has published an update of the application – already live in the App Store – which will allow customers to subscribe without going through Apple.
The update has been approved by Apple and allows Spotify to include details on the subscription plans and the promotional offers available outside the App Store on the Spotify website.
Spotify was a vocal critic of the rules of the App Store and was in a bullish mood following the decision of an American federal judge. Previously, Apple has strongly limited the quantity of application developers who could advertise and a link to payment options outside the App Store, where Apple takes a 30% drop in integrated payments.
But the speed of Spotify’s decision had some subscribers asked a question: if Spotify can approach tonight, why hasn’t he corrected some of the most boring missing features for Apple devices?
A potential answer, of course, is that the addition of non -papple subscription links makes money and making Spotify more pleasant with Apple.
What Spotify users are still waiting for
For Apple listeners, two of the largest omissions are AirPlay 2 support and the native integration of HomePod, which have been both possible for years. Spotify has chosen not to implement them and, therefore, in the streaming Spotify on HomePods or to ventilate aircraft is a bit painful.
The reason why several streamers – Pandora were there too – did not kiss HomePods, it is because when you asked them to play music, they would always go on Apple Music. But this was treated five years ago when Apple allowed you to specify other musical applications as a default music player, and Pandora quickly changed its application.
But at that time, Spotify did not argue with Apple on the costs of the App boutique and has no mood to play well with its perceived oppressor. He filed his first anti-trust complaint in Europe in 2019.
As the BTZ1 subscriber put it on the Spotify community site, only a first generation game means that “this obsolete technology has several limitations that have a direct impact on our pleasure”.
These limits include audio interruptions, the limited bandwidth compared to AirPlay 2 and the lack of multi-chamber support. In a later comment in the same thread, BTZ1 says “I feel punished to want to use Spotify in the Apple ecosystem”.
Obviously, Spotify has the resources to make major changes to its application and to make them quickly. So maybe now he can escape Apple’s “application tax”, this can put some of them to improve the experience of Apple subscribers with the features they have been asking for years.
