There’s more to live music than seeing your favorite artists in the flesh: location is an important part of the experience, and Spotify underlines that with its revamped in-app live event stream.
The functionality has been improved in terms of design and you can now follow your favorite places and discover new live music spots that you may have missed before, all of which will be saved to your library for easy access. The new feed has already started rolling out to users and can be used by Free and Premium subscribers.
Building on its involvement in live music, Spotify’s new venue listings are designed to help promote venues, large or small, and ensure they are filled to the brim with concert-goers. Rene Volker, senior director of live music at Spotify, goes into detail:
“Live music thrives when the right fans find the right ticket at the right time. By allowing listeners to follow venues directly in the app and refreshing the live event feed daily to highlight highly relevant concert recommendations, we turn streaming intent into actual attendance. This helps venues fill capacity and helps fans fill their calendars with concerts they’ll love. »
Updated daily, Spotify’s new live events feed shows you concerts happening in your area “from this weekend’s intimate concerts to just-announced world tours,” according to Spotify’s blog. Not only will Spotify keep you up to date with local music concerts, it will show you relevant concerts based on the music you stream and your favorite genres, so they’re completely tailored to your unique tastes.
According to Spotify’s announcement, there are over 20,000 sites listed around the world that you can follow and add to your library. If you see a concert listed in the venue section you like the sound of, you can click through to the event’s ticketing site.
Spotify has a long history of offering live music events, starting with its Concerts Hub in 2020, which the company later renamed to what we now call the Live Events section. Earlier this year, Spotify launched its Concerts Near You playlist, a one-stop shop for you to stream music from touring artists in your area that also directs you to third-party booking sites to secure tickets.
My own feed is full of large capacity venues in my area, as well as smaller venues that are just as popular with live music fans. Currently, small independent venues don’t yet have their own tabs in the new section, which somewhat defeats the purpose of the update, but there is room for expansion here.
