Where exactly the sporting loyalty of Pope Leo XIV resides, quickly evolved into a subject of conversation.

A photo of the new pontiff wearing a Chicago White Sox jersey in Pinstripe at World Series 2005 surfaced in the Sun-Totes Chicago, which seemed to add more fuel to the debate.

Elected Thursday, Cardinal Robert Prevost is the first pope of the United States in the history of the Catholic Church. The missionary born in Chicago, who took the name of Leo XIV, also attended Villanova University near Philadelphia, where he obtained a Baccalaureate ès Sciences in 1977.

The quarter of Chicago Bears Caleb Williams is one of the last figures in the world of sport to weigh on the new Pope. Williams only needed two words to express his apparent excitement: “Daaaaaa Pope”, he wrote Thursday on X.

Williams had several ups and downs during his recruit season while the Bears fell on a 5-12 file. Although it is not clear if the new Pope is a passionate supporter, Chicago certainly has many reasons of hope in 2025.

The Bears hired Ben Johnson as a new head coach in January. The team then made a burst of additions to its list once the free period of the NFL opened its doors last month. Chicago strengthened its offensive line by acquiring Drew Dalman and Guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson.

The election of the new pope also coincides with a trio of former villanova players leading the New York Knicks during their NBA eliminatory race. It didn’t take long for a photoshopped photo of the four together to appear on social networks.

The Knicks have erased 20-point deficits in matches 1 and 2 winners against the defending champion Boston Celtics in the semi-finals of the Eastern Conference, with match 3 for Saturday in New York. The Knicks have not won an NBA title since 1973.
