- CD Projekt Red still plans to release its next Witcher trilogy over a period of six years
- Co-CEO Michał Nowakowski says CPR is happy with what it has achieved with its use of Unreal Engine 5
- Nowakowski suggests that Unreal Engine 5 will allow for a shorter development time between The Witcher 4, 5And 6
CD Projekt Red has reaffirmed its intention to release its next trilogy of Witcher games within six years.
During the company’s latest financial call (via IGN), co-CEO Michał Nowakowski said that the development period between each new Witcher The game, which is expected to star Ciri in the lead role, will be much shorter, mainly thanks to the move to Unreal Engine 5.
“We have been using UE5 since The Witcher 4 for almost four years now, and we are very happy with what we have accomplished,” Nowakowski said.
“I think you could have seen some of it with your own eyes with our tech demo revealed at Unreal Fest a few months ago, and we’re also very happy with the results – we’ve said this before, but I’m always happy to say it again – and we’re happy with how the engine is evolving thanks to the efforts of the Epic team, and how we’re learning to make it work in a huge open-world game, like The Witcher 4 is meant to be.”
The CEO went on to suggest that because CDPR uses Unreal Engine 5, after The Witcher 4 launches, The Witcher 5 And The Witcher 6 will have a “shorter development” window.
“In some ways, yes, I believe other games should ship in a shorter time frame – as we’ve said before, our plan is still to release the full trilogy over a six-year period, so yes, that would mean we were planning to have a shorter development time between 4 And 5between 5 And 6 and so on,” he said.
Unfortunately, Nowakowski hasn’t given any indication as to when we can expect the first game in the trilogy to launch, but CDPR has suggested that The Witcher 4 is unlikely to launch before 2027.
In addition to its Witcher trilogy, CDPR is also working on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, which is now in pre-production, although the game is certain to release after The Witcher 4.
