- Valve Steamos market share increased by 0.32%, based on a new Steam hardware and software survey
- Microsoft Windows 11 market share fell 0.44%, suggesting that players migrate to Steamos
- These results come just before the new `Complete” Microsoft experience for the Xbox PC application
Microsoft Windows 11 is about to receive important updates leading to 2026, especially for players with its new Xbox PC ‘Full-Screen Experience’ application. However, it seems that the Linux de Valve operating system is gradually taking advantage of the best operating system for games.
As Tweaktown reported, Steam’s results in July 2025 in July 2025 suggest that players are going to Valve Steamos from Microsoft Windows 11, with 0.32% growth in Linux market share – while Windows 11 market share fell by 0.44%.
Tweaktown stresses that the market share of the operating system of 2.89% of Linux is equivalent to around four million players out of the 132 million Steam users, so growth is quite significant. This can also be a huge indication of the popularity of portable games since Valve introduced its steam game in 2022, if the majority of these results come from portable players.
It is clear that the Valve steamos still have a long way to go in terms of number of users compared to Windows 11, but the Linux operating system has undoubtedly already exceeded windows in terms of game performance, accessibility and features.
It should also be noted that Valve and Microsoft have promised commitments to improve their respective operating systems. The first plans to extend Steamos ‘compatibility with other pocket computers and desktop computers, while Microsoft provides a full -screen `’ pocket computers, making its debut on the Rog Xbox ally.
Analysis: I doubt that the new Xbox PC “ full -screen “ application will check the Steamos momentum
As I said before, it is very difficult for me to see how the next Xbox PC application experience of Microsoft will divert me from Steamos, because the latter simply won me (at least with pocket computers).
I will not say that Microsoft does not hear any chance, and I will certainly check it once it is available – but I think that the scene is already defined for Valve to take the lead regarding PC games.
The tools at my disposal when using Bazzite (a steamos clone) are ideal for personalizing the user interface, and perhaps above all, improved play performance with Decky Framegen and a scaling without decky, all via Decky Loder.
Of course, there are certainly equivalent tools on Windows 11, but navigation and DIY on this operating system, especially With a pocket computer, that’s something I don’t want to face. This is why this “full screen experience” seems promising, because it looks like an equivalent of the Steamos game mode.
Microsoft’s new efforts to improve games on its operating system are welcome and appreciated, and I think that will attract many players once it is launched with the Rog Xbox ally – but overall, I suspect that it will not check the momentum of Steamos.
