Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin did not provide details to reporters Tuesday on his thoughts on Jalen Ramsey’s ejection from Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. He did, however, make a telling statement about how someone should react in this situation.
Ramsey was ejected in the fourth quarter of the AFC North game after appearing to grab Chase’s facemask and punch him. Tensions between the two respective stars had increased and after the match, Ramsey accused Chase of spitting on him, prompting him to get physical.

Tomlin told reporters Tuesday that he was aware of Ramsey’s accusation. He declined to comment on the NFL’s decision to suspend Chase for one game.

“I was aware of it. I certainly spoke to Jalen during the game – it’s an unfortunate incident. It’s not a common act in football, it has nothing to do with football,” Tomlin said. “And so, I’m not going to comment on that. The NFL office has made its judgment on that and so we’re moving on.”
Asked later about his message to Ramsey, Tomlin didn’t offer much. But he made his position clear on Ramsey’s reaction to the spitting incident.
“I have no message if someone spits in your face. Do what feels natural.”

Chase denied spitting, but video evidence proved otherwise. According to the league, the star receiver violated Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1, which applies to “any act contrary to the generally recognized principles of sportsmanship.”
Chase’s suspension is reportedly costing him $448,333 per day, as well as an active bonus of $58,823 per game.
