Spurrier, which led to Florida Gators in a national championship in 1996, asked why the Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian has chosen to start Ewers in the past two seasons considering Manning’s highly discussed potential.

“You just have to ask the coach Sark, how you played this one instead of it,” continued Spurrier. “I hope he will say:” Because we thought he was better than that. “Isn’t that why you play a guy and not the other?

Texas defeated Clemson in the first round of the university football playoffs before an excited victory in overtime against Arizona State in the quarterfinals. The possible national champion of the Ohio State Buckeyes eliminated the Longhorns of the affirmations in the playoffs in January.

Texas opens the 2025 season against Buckeyes in Columbus on August 30.
