Vecna, we talk a lot about the character’s makeover in the new season of Stranger Thingsand it didn’t take long for fans to notice that something had changed.
Jamie Campbell Bower returned as the terrifying villain in the first volume of season five, and viewers were quick to point out his sharp looks, especially his slim waist.
One X fan asked why Vecna looked so different this time around, pointing out the “branches on her shoulder” and her “thinner waist.”
Jamie didn’t miss the opportunity to keep things light, responding with one word: “Zumba.”
After nearly being burned alive by Nancy Wheeler at the end of season four, the villain formerly known as Henry Creel has returned to Hawkins with longer vines on his shoulders and head, and visible marks from the injuries he suffered.
Although still tall and imposing, his new appearance is much more slender than before.
For Jamie, the changes relate to Vecna’s journey and what he endured.
Speaking about the transformation in an interview with Rant screenhe said: “Well, as we saw at the end of season four, Vecna suffered a fall and was obviously almost burned alive. From what I understand, the reason he looks the way he does now is a byproduct in part of that process. And also, just having spent more time, not in the human world so to speak.”
Jamie continued: “He became more angry and hideous in this process and in this part of the world that he was thrust into.”
He also explained that getting into this evolved version of the character required even more work behind the scenes.
“I talk about it often,” he said, adding that additional pieces were added to the costume to bring his presence to life. The makeup alone took about eight hours.
Jamie also teased Vecna’s return before the end of the season.
In October, he posted a clip of the character walking through the Upside Down with the caption: “Finally we can get started. @strangerthingstv Hi x.”
With Stranger Things Vol. 1 Now streaming, fans won’t have to wait long for the rest. Flight. 2 arrives on December 25 and the finale arrives on December 31.
Vecna is officially back, and scarier than ever.
