It’s almost time to say goodbye to Stranger Things.
The fifth and final season of the incredibly popular Netflix series, which has contributed to the success of the platform, will finally debut on November 26 and 27. And, while Netflix only offers us the first four episodes, aka volume 1, of Stranger Things season 5, they’re bound to be full of major talking points.
Before the supernatural sci-fi horror franchise returns, everyone has their own idea of what’s going to happen – including me. To that end, I’ve put together a list of five things that I think will happen in part one of Stranger Things 5. So grab some Eggos and your Walkman, and head over to my place (read: scroll) to get my predictions for Volume 1 of Season 5.
1. One of the main actors of Stranger Things is going to die
Stranger Things has always been an ensemble piece. Yes, some characters feature more prominently than others, but each season has a range of main and supporting characters.
So, the last hurray of one of the best Netflix shows is no different. As I pointed out in my guide on Stranger Things In season 5, more than 20 actors – 21, to be precise – are confirmed. This doesn’t count minor characters that I would expect to see again as well, which could bring the list up to 30 stars.
With franchise creators/overlords Ross and Matt Duffer teasing this Stranger Things 5 will be the deadliest entry yet, it’s inevitable that some characters will end up. And, while it’s safe to assume that players in partial games will likely perish in the first playthrough, I think it would be much more impactful if one or two key characters died as well.
I imagine that a lot of Stranger ThingsThe main cast will make it to Part 2, but that would be an emotionally devastating way to close out Volume 1 of Season 5 with the death of, say, Joyce Byers, Jim Hopper, or even one of the kids.
If Netflix wants Stranger Things If Season 5 dominates the news cycle and online discussions until Season 5 Volume 2 arrives in December, killing off someone important would go a long way toward achieving that goal.
2. Volume 1 will end on a cliffhanger
This might be an obvious prediction to make. However, if the Duffer Brothers don’t kill off one or two major players in Episodes 1-4, the best option for keeping the conversation going between volumes is for the Volume 1 finale to end on a cliffhanger.
Think about it. Someone finds themselves in a perilous situation they can’t get out of, and just when you think they’re about to reach their end, the screen goes black. Rolling credits. Cue the shocked, wide-eyed, open-mouthed expressions of viewers, who now have to wait an entire month to find out the outcome.
We’ve already glimpsed a potential cliffhanger moment involving Will and Vecna in Stranger Things 5The final spoiler trailer. However, I don’t think this scene will be the last we see in the fourth episode of this season, mainly due to its appearance in said teaser. And, with Stranger Things With all eight episodes of Season 5 being essentially movie-length events, we’ve only seen a fraction of the footage from this season. There are countless unseen sequences that could fit the cliffhanger project instead.
3. We’ll find out what Vecna’s full plan is – and more about her past
It is clear that Vecna, alias Stranger Things‘, the main villain, has a goal to defend with Eleven and her allies. It’s also obvious that the person formerly known as Henry Creel wants to punish the rest of the world for the traumatic events that ultimately led him to become the monstrous entity that he is.
However, there is still much we don’t know about Vecna’s master plan. Does he want to destroy the world and humanity? Or is he trying to convert it into a realm like the Upside Down? And why does he need Will Byers to help him achieve his main goal?
It’s also in the Duffers’ best interest to reveal some crucial details about Vecna’s past.
Fans who saw the prequel on stage Stranger Things: The First Shadow will know more about Creel’s history than those who don’t know it. To ensure Stranger Things 5 doesn’t hit the big issue of Marvel and Star Wars, it will have to recap the key moments of the piece, preferably at some point in its first four episodes. Otherwise, some viewers might think they missed crucial information from a previous season and/or be confused as to how Eleven and company know certain things about Vecna that weren’t explained in previous seasons.
4. A specific scene will go viral
It was inevitable that Stranger Things Season 4 was going to be a big hit for Netflix ahead of its July 2022 debut. Even so, I don’t think any paid executive at the streamer expected so many scenes to go viral.
Any sequence involving Joseph Quinn’s Eddie Munson – his final fight against the demo-bats and that “Chrissy, Wake Up!” video meme to name just two – immediately comes to mind. It is the same that emblematic scene representing the escape of Max de Vecna, that is to say the one to the song by Kate Bush “Running Up That Hill” which reached the status of cultural phenomenon after being listened to more than a billion times on Spotify.
It then seems inevitable that Stranger Things 5 will have its own instantly memorable and/or viral moments. Whether it’s a set to Queen’s “Who Wants to Live Forever,” aka the song used in Stranger Things the official trailer for season 5, or a sequence that no one expected to be a highlight clip, I bet there’s a scene or two created with the aim of becoming the show’s next viral incident.
5. A trailer for season 5 part 2 will be released
Another easy observation to make, especially since Netflix tends to end a volume of the last season of a series with a teaser for the next part.
Still, there’s no better way to hint at what’s to come than showing a trailer for Stranger Things season 5, part 2 once the end credits of volume 1 have finished.
Sure, the world’s best streaming service might wait a day or two, but Netflix knows what people want – and, if you’re like me, you’ll want new footage to review once part one is over. After all, with a month’s wait for Episodes 5-7, we’ll need a teaser to look for clues about the rest of the story. Make it so, Netflix.
