- Stranger Things: Tales from 1985 will arrive on Netflix on April 23
- A first trailer has also been released
- However, fans are divided on their opinions
Stranger Things Season 5 brought the long-running Netflix series to an end, and like any good D&D campaign, it had a fitting ending (even if it didn’t satisfy everyone). However, the franchise is not yet finished as a new spin-off, Stranger Things: Tales of 1985, will arrive April 23.
It’s impossible to ignore the cultural impact Stranger Things has had fans, but the recent trailer release has left people divided on whether a spin-off is necessary. After such a confrontation with Vecna, surely it’s time to move on?
Not according to Netflix. Stranger Things: Tales from 1985 adds even more lore to the mix, nestled between the events of seasons 3 and 4. It focuses on the main party from the original series, with all-new voice actors.
Take a look at the controversial new trailer below and see what you think.
Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 has yet to convince fans
“STRANGER THINGS: TALES FROM ’85” will be released on Netflix this year. An animated series that follows the Hawkins group on an adventure taking place between seasons 2 and 3 of the main series. pic.twitter.com/reL7Z6reXzJanuary 2, 2026
After an epic confrontation in Stranger Things season 5, this seemed like a reasonable place to end things. I’ve said this before, but I have a lot of respect for storytellers who know when to quit, and some of my favorite TV shows have been short and sweet as a result.
But when it comes to Stranger Thingswe are not finished yet. Rather than serving as a prequel or direct sequel, Stranger Things: Tales from 1985 is sandwiched right in the middle, developing the story from that point on.
This is also an animated series with different voice actors serving as the main cast, so it will definitely be different overall. But even though I’ve changed things up and tried a new approach, I can’t help but wonder what the point is.
Initial reactions were mixed. Here are some of the posts I found on X in response to the new trailer.
April 2026 CANNOT come fast enough with Eleven animated and Hawkins’ Snow Team is going to hit differently. LET’S GO…..February 2, 2026
As you can see, the reception to it is very mixed, and it is even claimed that it seems better than season 5. We will have to wait for its release in April to see if it is good.
Until then, many of the best Netflix shows are waiting for you to watch. All this will keep you going until April, that’s for sure!
