The 8 of Muharram, mourning processions and religious rallies (Majalis) are held through Punjab, including Lahore, with great reverence and solemnity.
A large number of mourning people, including women and children, participate in these commemorations, paying tribute to the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions, and reflecting on the tragic events of Karbala.

Strict security arrangements have been implemented to ensure peaceful driving of Muharram and Majalis processions. According to data provided by the Punjab House department and the police authorities, more than 58,000 police and staff were deployed throughout the province, as well as more than 27,000 community volunteers helping to maintain order.
In Hore, more than 3,600 police officers were assigned to security tasks. In total, 86 mourning processions are deleted in the city today, while 416 major are planned.
The central procession of the 8th Muharram in Lahore was withdrawn from Imambargah Darbar Hussain, located inside the Porte de Mori, attracting a large crowd of mourning people.
The symbolic procession “Shabeeh-e-Zuljanah” will follow its designated route and should reach the evening of Imambargah Bait-Ul-Raza in Old Anarkali.
At the province’s scale, a total of 1,365 processions and 3,940 majalis take place today. Throughout 10 days of Muharram, the security of Punjab will remain on alert.
Authorities use video surveillance monitoring, drone monitoring and other modern safety tools, especially in sensitive areas.
The administration urged citizens to cooperate with the staff of the police and to immediately report any suspicious activity to the competent authorities.
