- StubHub’s new ChatGPT app lets users find event tickets in real-time through a simple chat
- You can search, refine and compare seats entirely in one chat
- The transaction is finalized on the StubHub website
StubHub is the latest addition to the third-party apps available through ChatGPT. You can find tickets to a concert, play or sport directly in ChatGPT, selected from the millions held in StubHub’s inventory. Lists are organized in real time, but displayed as part of the conversation. You can see information about seats, prices and dates.
Simply enable StubHub in the Applications section of ChatGPT and tap Connect. Then, simply start a conversation from the app page or by starting a prompt with “@StubHub”. Then, simply describe the type of show you want to see and anything else you want to consider, like dates, and the chatbot will show you what’s available.
For example, I asked “@StubHub when are the Yankees playing at home next” and saw a helpful calendar of dates, who they’re playing against, and what tickets are for.
ChatGPT offered to further narrow down my choices based on weekend games, price, or matches against specific teams. I chose the Marlins, but with tickets being more expensive because it’s Opening Day, I told ChatGPT to “show me something cheaper,” and the AI kept the context of my request in mind, pulling the Astros game almost $100 cheaper later in the summer.
You can also start with a very vague request. Ask “any good comedy shows in NYC this week under $100?” » and the StubHub app interprets your intent, analyzes the relevant lists and returns some ideas that match the brief. Once you know which tickets you want, you select your choice and are redirected to the StubHub site to purchase them.
ChatGPT’s golden ticket
This is the only thing that interrupts the smooth progress of getting tickets. It’s a bit shocking to have to move to a new website and not make the purchase through ChatGPT. But, as I discovered when purchasing tickets, by the time you get to the point of being sent to StubHub, you’ve already made all the decisions. It’s just a matter of sending your payment.
StubHub is one of the first ticketing companies to connect to ChatGPT in this way, but the appeal is obvious. You don’t have to worry about filters and multiple tabs, just regular descriptions of what you want to go see and what type of seats you want. You replace checkboxes and scrollbars with a prompt or two.
I tried a few experiments comparing getting tickets from StubHub via ChatGPT versus getting tickets from the website only, and each time ChatGPT was faster. The gap was largest when I started with the more abstract “Find me something fun to do nearby this weekend”, and almost disappeared when I had in mind a very specific show and seat choice to purchase.
StubHub is not alone among third-party ChatGPT applications involving purchases, but it represents a major market that OpenAI would likely like to open up via ChatGPT. Personally, I think this comes in very handy for searching for more elusive seats without having to do a lot of searching in different tabs.
