ISLAMABAD:
A government committee in talks with the PTI has formed a subcommittee to deliberate on the opposition party’s demand to form a judicial commission to probe the incidents that occurred on May 9, 2023 and November 26, 2024.
A meeting of the government’s negotiating committee was held at Parliament under the chairmanship of National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
Participants included Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Aleem Khan, Salik Hussain, Senator Irfan Siddiqui, Rana Sanaullah, Dr Farooq Sattar, Ijaz-ul-Haq and Khalid Magsi.
The meeting considered the written requests of the PTI. During the meeting, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar briefed the committee on each point of the opposition’s charter of demands. It was agreed to continue the committee’s deliberations tomorrow.
After the meeting, government committee spokesperson Senator Irfan Siddiqui addressed the media, saying the session went well and included a detailed review of the PTI’s demands. He said the meetings would continue today (Wednesday) and the following day.
The senator said no final decision has been made regarding the establishment of a judicial commission as consultations on the matter are ongoing.
“All representatives of the seven allied parties were present in the meeting. The seven working days for negotiations will be fully utilized, paving the way for the fourth round of negotiations with the PTI,” he said.
After the meeting, PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah told the media that a subcommittee had been formed to review the PTI’s charter of demands. This subcommittee would prepare the government’s response to the PTI’s demands, which would be presented during the next round of negotiations with the opposition.
