A metro bus crashed into the popular Shaw neighborhood restaurant on Saturday morning, April 4.
The bus ended up partially inside the building, but luckily there was no one inside the restaurant.
Four people were injured and were taken to hospital for evaluation. Among the injured were the driver and passengers.
DC Fire and EMS officials reported that the tragic incident occurred around 7th and Q streets NW.
The incident occurred when another vehicle collided with the bus, causing it to veer toward AMBAR Restaurant, a popular brunch and dinner spot. Fortunately, the building was empty at the time.
Utility service was cut off and firefighters began searching for victims while a collapse team checked the building’s structural integrity. After the bus was removed around midday, it was decided that there was no problem with the structural integrity of the building.
Emergency services remained on site until late morning while the investigation took place. The Metropolitan Police Department and DC Fire & EMS took the lead in investigating the cause of this accident.
