Superman is less than a month to fly in theaters and, according to James Gunn, the full cast of the superhero film always has not yet been revealed.
Addressing Entertainment Weekly, Gunn confirmed that there were characters in the film DC Universe (DCU), which arrives on July 11, whose identities were not publicly revealed. Asked if there are individuals who will appear in Superman Who has not yet been announced, the co-chief of DC Studios simply replied: “Yes”.
As would be expected, the response of a word of Gunn set languages stirring among DC’s comic fans. Could Batman and / or Wonder Woman make unexpected but plunging cameras? What about other members of Justice League, such as The Flash or Aquaman? Or how about Peacemaker, whose second season will be launched on Max just over a month (August 21, to be exact) after SupermanTheatrical outing?
I do not think it will be one of these metahumans. If we believe Gunn, Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince have not yet been thrown into their autonomous projects of the DCU chapter. Meanwhile, the Flash and Aquaman were not mentioned by Gunn during his two and a half years (at the time of publication) as CO-PDG of DC Studios. As for Peacemaker, I would be very surprised if he made his official debut in DCu before Peacemaker Season 2 is published. So who could Gunn refer to?
A Kryptonian cameo not so cryptic
In my opinion, there is only one person to whom Gunn’s response applies: Supergirl, alias Kara Zor-El.
Think about it. According to DC Comics Lore, Kara is the only other person who has survived the destruction of Krypton, is the cousin of Kal-El / Superman and was supposed to join his blood parent on earth to help not only raise him, but to protect him while he grew up. Unfortunately, according to DC literature, his ship was overthrown by Krypton’s explosion and did not reach the land for 24 years. At that time, Kal-El was, unsurprisingly, all adults had adopted the alias Superman and had become one of the most powerful heroes on the planet.
Considering that Kal-El already works as a superhero as soon as SupermanThe story begins, we will not see much, if necessary, of the Kara background in one of the most anticipated new films of 2025. Nevertheless, a brief cameo of the young girl of power – either before SupermanThe end -of -end credits or in a post -key scene – would be a fun way to present the public to him and tease the family dynamics she has with her youngest cousin.
The brief appearance of Supergirl in Superman Would also open the way to his own solo film. Supergirl: woman of tomorrow – He is now known by his simpler title SupergirlWhat Gunn recently confirmed – will take off on June 26, 2026 and, therefore, is the second DCU film which will arrive in theaters. It would be perfectly logical, then, for the Supergirl of Milly Alcock in Cameo Superman Before the character’s first feature film in more than 40 years.
There is another element of evidence that convinced me Kara Zor-El will appear in Gunn Superman movie.
Supergirl is strongly inspired by the comic strip “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. In this document, Krypto Le Superdog joins Kara as she embarks on a mission to help a young warrior to take revenge on the man who killed the warrior’s father. As SupermanThe first trailer and the following follow-up teasers revealed, Krypto is part of the list of this film. If he will also appear in next year Supergirl Film, there is no better way for Kal-El to transmit it to his only surviving parent than by Kara making a brief appearance in the last restart of the steel man on the big screen.
