SVI warns against the impact of the ICBM test of India

Islamabad:

The Strategic Vision Institute (SVI), a reflection group based in Islamabad, warned that the projected test of India of a long-range intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) later this month could destabilize the region and carry out “serious repercussions” for global security.

Indian media reports suggest that New Delhi was preparing to test its longest agni missile in the range – perhaps the Agni V or Agni VI compatible nuclear compatible with several reintegration vehicle capacities (MIRV), independently, said SVI in a press release. An opinion to the airmen (NOTAM) has already been issued from August 20 to 21, blocking a corridor of more than 4,700 km in Bengal Bay.

The reflection group said that Indian missile developments have accelerated since its membership of the missile technology control scheme (MTCR) in 2016, which gave it access to advanced technologies and equipment. He added that India had also acquired armed drones from the United States and Israel, some of which were used during the May 2025 conflict with Pakistan.

“Missile developments with ranges of 8,000 km and more and the possession of nuclear capacities are a clear manifestation of the projection of power worldwide and hegemonic,” said SVI, adding that these weapons would put Washington, Moscow, Brussels, Beijing and other major cities in the strike range.

The reflection group said that India has already militarized and nuclefated the Indian Ocean with nuclear propulsion submarines armed with ballistic missiles launched underwater (SLBM). He added that the tests of improved missile systems aimed to send a message to the opponents of India and to strengthen its global power projection ambitions.

“The international community must persuade India not to take measures that undermine strategic stability and adopt policies that could endanger regional and global security,” SVI warned. The Institute also urged New Delhi to “engage in the right neighborhood, to end the terrorism sponsored by the State by proxies, to cease the oppression of the Kashmiris and to comply with its obligations under the Charter of the United Nations and international law”.
