- Framework and Nvidia have teamed up to introduce GPUs of swapple laptops, starting with a new RTX 5070 module
- The laptop Framework 16 with RTX 5070 is now available in pre-order, and the GPU module will soon be sold separately for upgrades
- This idea is an improvement compared to the MXM swappable laptop GPUs from the past
The upgrading of a game notebook to get better performance generally means buying a completely new system – perhaps one of the best game laptops – but a manufacturer of laptops, a frame and Nvidia hope to change all of this.
As indicated by The Verge, the Laptop Framework 16 has an NVIDIA RTX 5070 graphics module with upgrading, allowing players to exchange the existing GPU with a new and more powerful. This laptop at Framework 16 exciting the RTX 5070 module is now available for pre -order, with the first prize shipping in November.
Framework claims that the installation of the BlackWell graphics module takes “ less than five minutes ” using the tools provided, and by its appearance, installation should be a simple process of slot machine and screws after removing the existing GPU.
Although there is not yet an option to buy it, Framework will individually sell the NVIDIA RTX 5070 graphics module.
Essentially, this brings the advantage of an office game PC in the world of laptops, which makes it possible for easy to GPU upgrades. Of course, the RTX 5070 mobile graphics card is not as powerful as its office counterpart, but it still offers a lot of growls for a laptop. And it is clearly a huge upgrade compared to the AMD Radeon RX 7700 GPU of Framework, GPU AMD Radeon RX 7700.
Now it should be noted that this is not the first swapable laptop GPU. The MXM GPUs allowed players to perform this same tip to move an old laptop graphics card for a new model.
However, they have almost disappeared in the last decade (at least for games or consumer laptops), and moreover, they were not the best option for non-technophile players. Installation required deeper disassembly and complications, including the thermal reapplication paste.
On the other hand, with Framework and the new NVIDIA GPU module, it would only take a few minutes to install via a simple unstabry and replacement process. The end result is a blackwell GPU more than capable with tools like the Multi-Trame DLSS 4 generation at its disposal. There is also a USB-C output on the module which can transmit to an external monitor and load the system simultaneously.
Analysis: Could we see something similar for pocket computers in the future?
The swapple chips in pocket computers may seem eccentric at the moment, but what could we possibly raft at this stage?
The GPUs for swapple laptop are not entirely unknown, as already noted, but in contemporary times, they may have looked like a myth for many – but now they are again a reality.
We already see breathtaking conceptions like a RTX 4090 DIY propulsion laptop, and the GPD wins 5 with a detachable battery functionality (which can be negative for some) while using the most powerful APU of AMD, the Ryzen Ai Max + 395.
If it is not a strong sign that things are no longer directed by in terms of portable game PC equipment, then I don’t know what is – and I will not be surprised if we see something similar to what Framework and Nvidia have cooked here in future pocket computers.
